China urges India to withdraw its troops unconditionally amid border tension

Sikkim standoff: Easier to shake a mountain than PLA, says China; warns India against 'unrealistic illusions'

China urged India on Monday to immediately withdraw all troops that have illegally entered China, stating that the nation would defend its territorial sovereignty at all costs. "It is easier to shake a mountain than to shake the PLA", Qian said.

"The crossing of the mutually recognised global border by India is a serious violation of China's territory and runs against worldwide law", he added.

In the wake of an Army face-off and chill in ties with India over Dokalam stand-off, the Chinese media outlets have been issuing provoking statements.

The withdrawal of Indian soldiers was a precondition for resolving the situation, he said.

India claims Sikkim border as part of its territory, while China has said that the area falls on their side as per the 1890 treaty signed between British and China.

"China has been trying for a long time to gain a tactical advantage in this sector", having already established dominance along the Indian borders at Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, said security expert Uday Bhakar, a retired Indian navy officer. "We want that if a dialogue is held, and if talks are to be held, then both the countries should withdraw their troops", External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

He said the military deployment and training in Tibet would be stepped up in the face of the dragging stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops at Doklam. The tension rose after India deployed troops in the disputed territory in support of Bhutan to stop construction of a road in the area.

It is expected to be taken up again when Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval visits Beijing for another security forum on Thursday and Friday.

India has said Beijing's action to "unilaterally determine tri-junction points" violated a 2012 India-China pact which says the boundary would be decided by consulting all the concerned parties.

Border guards of the two countries are locked in a standoff since June 16, with China accusing India of trespass and preventing its soldiers from building a road. He added that China's ability to defend its territory and sovereignty has "constantly strengthened".

"China is willing to maintain peace and stability of the China-India boundary, but China will not make compromises regarding sovereignty", Lu added.
