US Democrats introduce new sanctions bill against Iran

Trump says he’ll be ‘angry’ if Senate health care bill flops

"I'm a Russian Federation hawk".

"[Trump] said 'I could shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue and nobody would really do anything about it, ' " she recalled the president saying during the campaign.

House Republican leaders said they had not taken up the original Senate bill because it violated a constitutional requirement that all legislation affecting government revenues originate in the House, known as a "blue slip" issue.

Trump administration officials said they disagree with provisions in the bill requiring the president to get Congress' permission before easing any sanctions, and the fact that numerous new sanctions are mandatory, so that the president can not opt to waive them for national security reasons.

"I think that the president has every right to call Congress back if necessary, because I think he'd made a very fair point that I believe that the Democratic obstruction is jeopardizing national security", Short said.

"There has been some assertion that we are holding up the bill", Hoyer said. "The majority leader can put the bill on the floor as early as 12:01 p.m. today". I would urge him to do so. The Senate-passed sanctions bill would prevent Trump from returning the compounds without congressional consent.

U.S. President Donald Trump sent mixed signals about U.S. sanctions against Russian Federation in a conversation with reporters released by the White House on Thursday. "House Republicans need to end this charade".

The issue has become even more heated since emails released Tuesday showed that Donald Trump Jr, the president's eldest son, eagerly agreed previous year to meet a woman he was told was a Russian government lawyer who might have damaging information about Hillary Clinton, the Democratic rival in the 2016 presidential election.

McCarthy said Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Pompeo announced that the Russian sanction package would have the potential to touch, some of its elements.

At a press conference Friday, the California Democrat read a list of crimes for which legal experts have said Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort could potentially be prosecuted as a result of their June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer.

There are other pressures on the passage of the bill, too.

Alleging that democratic senators have allowed only 10 percent of Trump's confirmations to happen by voice vote, while more than 90 percent of Obama's were confirmed by a simple voice vote in 2009, the White House said in just a few months the Democrats have delayed the nominations by going through the burdensome cloture process 30 times.

House Republicans said on Monday that the Senate change had not satisfied the procedural concern and that the Senate would have to change it and vote again. But the bill stalled in the House with Democrats and Republicans blaming each other for the delay. "Not a mode of assuring, as the Senate did, that we have significant oversight and protections vis-a-vis Russian Federation sanctions".

"I think this will be a major 2018 election issue", he said, "that Republicans were unwilling to stand up and defend the United States when it was down".

The fight over the House language is the latest twist for a bill that passed the Senate almost a month ago.

However, another influential K Street presence - the American Israel Public Affairs Committee - is pressing for quick action on the bipartisan Iran sanctions bill to which the Russian Federation penalties are attached.
