Airbus reported commitments for a total of 326 aircraft, including firm orders for 144 aircraft worth $18.5bn and MoUs for 182 aircraft worth $21.2bn.

"I think that this will be a down year for Airbus and Boeing in terms of orders but not in deliveries", Leahy stated. Lion Mentari Airlines PT of Indonesia and United Airlines are also expected to make orders during the Paris Air Show.

Boeing has claimed bragging rights over Airbus at the Paris Air Show, winning more aircraft deals at the biennial event than its European arch-rival for the first time since 2012. "Yes", said Airbus COO of Commercial Customers, John Leahy in comments reported by Reuters, Thursday.

"This wide market acceptance endorsed the 737 MAX 10 as the industry's most efficient and profitable single-aisle airplane", Boeing said in a statement.

Airbus said it secured deals for 20 A320neo single-aisle planes and eight A330 widebodies from Zagros Airlines and another 45 single-aisle jets from Iran Airtour.

Other 737 MAX 10 customers include Copa Airlines (NYSE:CPA), Lion Air Group, Malaysia Airlines, AerCap Holdings (NYSE:AER) and General Electric's (NYSE:GE) aircraft leasing unit. However, executives at Airbus say that the Max 10 is a bigger threat to other models from Boeing than to the Airbus Neo.

"The addition of this advanced aircraft to our fleet will enable us to continue to offer the state-of-the-art flying experience our customers expect when traveling with us", said Gerry Laderman, United Airlines senior vice president of finance, procurement and treasurer.

Separately, another Chinese carrier, Donghai Airlines, opted to convert an earlier order for 10 smaller Max jets to 10 Max 10s, as did Malaysia Airlines, while Panama's Copa Airlines converted an order for 15. Boeing also announced commitments for more than 30 additional single-aisle and widebody planes.

The US planemaker continued to rack up orders at the Paris Airshow for a new version of its best-selling 737 aircraft, which was launched amid a flurry of deals.

Sales chief Ihssane Mounir said the USA planemaker had netted 147 new orders or commitments for the newly launched Boeing 737 MAX 10, created to add more capacity to the medium-haul series to catch up with strong sales of the Airbus A321neo.

Boeing's overall tally is higher partly because it counts aircraft with 90 seats or more, whereas Airbus starts at 100.

Boeing said demand for that size plane will be principally in the cargo segment and that fewer than 100 passenger models of that type will be delivered during the coming 20 years.
