Wanted GA inmates CAPTURED after chase in TN

Search for escaped inmates expanding as it enters 3rd day

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal said in a tweet Thursday evening that the two men were taken into custody after a vehicle chase. After they left the home in the couple's auto, the homeowners were eventually able to free themselves and call police.

The Putnam County Sheriff says he is elated these men are off the street, but is still grieving the loss of his two corrections officers. "We are looking for them anywhere they might be on the planet Earth".

"I'm sorry the people in Tennessee suffered whatever they suffered", Sills told the news station.

They stumbled out of the woods and ran into a man in his yard armed with an AR-15. The inmates got into a wreck, left the vehicle and then led police on a foot chase before both men were taken into custody in the community of Christiana, she said.

The interstate was closed as a result of the incident, causing significant backup.

Police say they forced their way into an elderly couple's home at gunpoint on Kingree Road in Bedford County.

Police responded to their call, eventually leading to a high-speed chase.

Authorities said the inmates were being transported when they overpowered the two officers, one of whom was driving the transport bus.

One of the escapees, Ricky Dubose, is heavily tattooed with tattoos across his neck and above both eyebrows.

Police spotted the auto in Shelbyville, Tennessee, and a chase began.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills had announced Thursday the reward had been upped to $130,000. Authorities are asking the public to keep an eye out for the stolen 2008 white Ford F250 pickup truck with the Georgia tag BCX-5372.

It was the first of four cars they stole while trying to elude capture, authorities said. In the process, they killed two correctional officers, sparking the manhunt. Rowe had been serving a life sentence without parole for armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a crime, and aggravated assault.

Likewise, Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Greg Dozier said in a press release, "We are relieved to know that these two unsafe individuals have been taken off the streets, and the public is out of harm's way". Both officers worked at Baldwin State Prison, according to the GDC.

The other inmates have been questioned and a camera on the bus recorded the guards being shot, but corrections officials have not explained to the public how the pair managed to get through the inmate compartment's normally locked door. The sheriff said that a work crew saw them, too. Deputies did not fire back, and there were no injures in the gunfire, authorities said at a news conference that included representatives from the TBI, the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the RCSO.

The two fallen officers were identified as Sergeant Christopher Monica and Curtis Billue.

Billue was nearing his 10th anniversary with the facility after being hired in July of 2007.

A GoFundMe page set up in the wake of Monica's death has now revealed he was working extra shifts to cover for his wife, who was ill and struggling to work.

They ditched their uniforms for stolen clothes when they ransacked a house about 30 miles from where they left the bus, Sills said.
