Man woman found dead with gunshot wounds on Chicago Skyway

Two people were shot and killed on the Chicago Skyway, prompting officials to close down the road heading toward Indiana.

Citing preliminary investigation, authorities said the man and woman were in a vehicle traveling eastbound on the roadway when the woman exited the auto and fled.

The vehicle traveled a short distance before it crashed.

The shooting was reported around 4:15 a.m.

Guglielmi said investigators believe that the two were married but they were continuing to try to verify their identities.

The eastbound lanes of the Chicago Skyway were shut down for almost six hours Wednesday morning, after a man shot and killed a woman, and then took his own life, police said.

Police said the incident appeared to be a domestic-related murder-suicide. The man and the woman were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The woman was found with several gunshot wounds and the man was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

The Illinois Department of Transportation fully closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 east of the Dan Ryan Expressway because of the police activity.
