Trump attorney says president not under investigation

President Trump Setting Up to Sack Robert Mueller

Trump had tweeted: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

Rod J. Rosenstein, deputy attorney general, last month named Robert B. Mueller, a former FBI director, as a special counsel to lead the sprawling investigation into the extent of Russia's meddling in the 2016 presidential election, and whether any of Trump's associates colluded in that effort.

Sekulow also opened a conflict between the President's political team and his legal one, hinting that the President's tweets should be discounted even though the White House said they are an authentic expression of his views.

Trump's tweet was "in response" to a Washington Post story last Wednesday indicating that the special counsel's probe now included the president, Sekulow said in television interviews.

"There's been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation", says Trump attorney Jay Sekulow.

Mueller is also looking at whether, if any potential offenses were committed, Trump or others attempted to cover them up or obstruct the investigation into them, said one US official on Thursday who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Sekulow appeared on NBC's "Meet the Press", CNN's "State of the Union", CBS's "Face the Nation" and "Fox News Sunday" on Fox. Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, pleaded Sunday for the president to give Mueller the room he needs to manage the inquiry.

"It looks like we have got a simmering tea kettle here, and the President seems to be testing the waters about whether he ought to go ahead and fire Robert Mueller", said Richard Ben-Veniste, a former Watergate prosecutor who is now a CNN legal analyst. "And instead of attacking Trump, Rubio seemed nearly in awe of being around him".

"Not only do I believe it, I know it".

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he's attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Russia's election-related hacking.

"One way or the other, we need an answer", Schiff said on ABC's "This Week" yesterday.

That process still has a long way to run, said Sen.

Friday is the deadline set by the House Intelligence Committee for the White House to produce "any White House recordings or memoranda of Comey's conversations with President Trump (that) now exist or have in the past". Angus King of ME, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats. This is a very complex matter, involving thousands of pages of intelligence documents, lots of witnesses.

Sekulow also said he "can't imagine a scenario where the president would not be aware of it".

Yet Trump's tweets in recent days condemning the actions of his own Justice Department have reached an intense level, revealing the president's increasing agitation about the probe and the attention it has drawn. Last week, the U.S. Senate voted overwhelmingly to back new sanctions on Russian Federation.
