One dead in 'potential terrorist attack' near London mosque

"In this case, if you compare it to other attacks in the period after 9/11 the determination it was terrorism actually came relatively quickly and there have been forceful statements coming out from the Muslim mayor of London and the Prime Minister condemning it as a terrorist atrocity".

"This was an attack on London and all Londoners and we should all stand together against extremists whatever their cause". We held him to the ground until he couldn't move.

Theresa May has faced heckles from the public after visiting the London mosque targeted in a terror attack.

Police officers attend to the scene after a vehicle collided with pedestrians in the Finsbury Park neighbourhood of North London June 19, 2017. "He did what he did deliberately to hit and kill as many Muslims as possible, so he is a terrorist". Ten people have been injured.

The Muslim Council of Britain called the incident a "terror attack" and the "most violent manifestation" of Islamophobia.

She said: "I'm not a terrorist".

"All my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones and the emergency services on the scene", she said. "We stopped him until the police came".

The Muslim Council tweeted that worshippers had been struck and said its prayers were with the victims.

Witnesses told Sky News and other British media that the van seemed to have veered and hit people intentionally.

Police said it was too early to say if the man who died did so directly because of the attack, as he was already receiving first aid from the public at the scene when it happened.

Abbott reiterated her description of the attack as terrorism, calling on police to "urgently review security for all mosques" minutes later, and retweeted a message from Shomrim North-East London which also referred to the crash as a "horrific terrorist attack". "People are both scared and angry".

He condemned it as a "tragic and barbaric terrorist attack" adding "all life is sacred". Parents are scared to send their children to evening prayers.

The Finsbury Park Mosque - located in a vibrant, multicultural area of north London - was once closely associated with extremism.

The incident comes just over two weeks after three Islamist militants drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people at nearby restaurants and bars, killing eight.

The scene is just metres from the main railway line linking London with Edinburgh, the main Arsenal Football Club shop and what was the Rainbow Theatre, considered the prestige London concert venue in the 1960s and 1970s.

BuzzFeed's James Ball was told by a witness, Abdulrahman Aloudi, that the attacker yelled "kill me, kill me, I want to kill all Muslims".

Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who is the MP for the area, said he was "totally shocked". He was also killed by police.

"He tried to kill a lot of people so obviously it's a militant attack".
