Mueller investigating Jared Kushner's business dealings

Washington Post: Mueller investigating Jared Kushner's business dealings

Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, is actively investigating the finances and business dealings of President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to multiple US officials familiar with the matter.

With Thursday's reporting, the investigation into Kushner - Trump's son-in-law and most trusted advisor - appears to have escalated yet again, and it's destroying the myth perpetuated by Trump and his allies that there is nothing to see here.

The 36-year-old is reported to have been bothered by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's decision to appoint Mueller as the special counsel.

"We do not know what this report refers to", Kushner's lawyer Jamie Gorelick said in a statement provided by Kushner's office.

Special counsel Robert Mueller has brought 13 lawyers on board to handle the Russian Federation investigation, with plans to hire more, according to his spokesman Peter Carr. "Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about Russia-related matters".

'He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry'.

Citing "US sources familiar with the matter", The Washington Post reported Thursday that the business dealings of additional former members of Trump's team, including his campaign's chairman, Paul Manafort, ousted security adviser Michael Flynn and ex-security adviser Carter Page, have also come under scrutiny.

Previously, it was reported that Kushner worked to establish a secret channel of communication between Moscow and the Trump team during the post-election transition phase.

Gorkov's state-owned bank Vnesheconombank (VEB) has been under USA sanctions since 2014.

Comey testified before the Senate last week, and stated that Trump spoke with him privately on several occasions in person and over the telephone.

In a subsequent early-morning tweet, Trump called the investigation "the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history". Comey was leading the investigation into Russian Federation. Mr Mueller has assembled a high-powered team of top investigators and leading experts, including top lawyers, James Quarles, Jeannie Rhee from his former firm, WilmerHale.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's personal attorney Marc Kasowitz, reacting to the news stories that prompted the Trump tweets, blamed the Federal Bureau of Investigation for leaking information regarding the president, which he called "outrageous, inexcusable and illegal". Comey said he told the president on three occasions that he wasn't personally under investigation.

"Regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey knowing there was no good time to do it", Trump told Lester Holt of NBC News in an interview broadcast May 11. Trump and the White House disputed Comey's description of the events.

Attorney Jay Sekulow is stressing that "the president has not been and is not under investigation".

According to the news accounts, neither Coats nor Rogers complied with Trump's requests.

Coats and Rogers told a Senate panel a week ago they did not feel pressured by Trump to intervene in the case, but declined to say what Trump asked them to do.
