Bill Cosby jury to hear more of his deposition testimony

Accompanied by his spokesman, Cosby arrived at the courthouse Tuesday morning for the resumption of jury deliberations.

The defense strategy focused on highlighting inconsistencies in Constand's past statements about the timing of the alleged assault and pointing out that she remained in contact with Cosby for weeks after the night in question.

The worst case scenario for Cosby will see him found guilty on all three charges, which he is ordered to serve consecutively, meaning 15-30 years behind bars.

Authorities declined to charge Cosby when she first came forward in 2005, but a new district attorney reopened the case in 2015 after Cosby's deposition was unsealed at the request of The Associated Press. She was stoic during the defense argument but left when it was the prosecution's turn. It was read to them by the judge.

Jurors got the case late Monday afternoon. But he too raised his voice at times during his more than two-hour closing argument.

In the prosecution's closing argument, Steele said that Cosby's lurid statements from 2005 helped corroborate Constand's allegations. She denied they had a romantic relationship and said she had rebuffed previous advances from him.

Johnson, who worked at the William Morris talent agency, said that Cosby gave her a pill that incapacitated her and then sexually assaulted her in 1996.

"Your friends", Cosby said he told her.

The jury in Bill Cosby's suburban Philadelphia sexual assault trial has ordered dinner after 90 minutes of deliberations. Cosby says any contact was consensual.

The 79-year-old disgraced comedian was on trial for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman at his Philadelphia home more than 13 years ago.

A conviction could put him in prison for the rest of his life. He says their sexual encounter was consensual. Prosecutors have suggested he drugged her with something stronger - perhaps quaaludes.

Constand testified that the assault left her humiliated by someone she had thought of as a friend and mentor.

Prosecutors countered by saying "fancy lawyering" can't save Cosby from his own words - namely, his admission about groping Constand after giving her pills he knew could put her to sleep. He also noted the many times she had called Cosby after the alleged attack. Camille Cosby also sat in the front row, with a few other people and the aisle between them.

McMonagle cited gifts and phone calls between Cosby and Constand to show she was more than a college sports staffer trying to placate a powerful Temple University trustee.

Once McMonagle finished, prosecutor Steele began his impassioned closing argument. Cosby lowered and shook his head in the courtroom as she spoke.

In his closing statement, McMonagle told jurors that Constand had changed her story after speaking with attorneys who specialize in sexual assault cases.

Cosby is charged sexually assaulting Constand, 44. The defence says when the case began it was about money, but now it's a about a man's liberty.

Cosby still faces multiple civil lawsuits by other accusers.

Prosecutor Kevin Steele and defense attorney Brian McMonagle each sent the jurors off to deliberations with rhetorical dilemmas to resolve. At the time, she was director of operations for the women's basketball team at Cosby's alma mater, Temple University.

Camille Cosby is the first member of his family to join him in arriving at court. The couple have four daughters.

Phone records showed she made no such call in January, he said, and instead show she only called Cosby's phone numbers in NY.

Wyatt told reporters last week Cosby told his wife to stay away to avoid the media mob at the trial.

Last week, accuser Andrea Constand testified that Cosby drugged and molested her in 2004 at his gated estate near Philadelphia.

McMonagle used a big screen to show jurors how Constand's story evolved in her interviews with police, noting that she was off by two months on the date of the alleged assault and inaccurately told police she had never been alone with Cosby before.

The trial will move to closing arguments if no defence witnesses are called. On Monday, the question hanging over the case was whether the TV star himself would testify.

The panel was excused at 9:40 pm, after a 13-hour day that included a six-minute defense case and almost five hours of closing arguments from both sides.
