Weather Service issues heat advisory for this weekend

No Chill: High Heat Here To Stay In NorCal A While

The National Weather Service is urging people in the Sacramento Valley to beat the heat.

Vallejo's projected high Friday is 85 degrees, dipping to 81 Saturday before jumping to 88 Sunday and then dropping to 80 Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

"There is absolutely no doubt we will be near all-time highs with this heat wave, with the hottest and most unsafe temperatures expected Monday through Wednesday", the National Weather Service in Phoenix said, offering heat safety tips. The temperature Friday at the Nut Tree Airport in Vacaville is expected reach 100, followed Saturday by a high of 102, 105 Sunday and 102 Monday. Concord and Livermore are among the inland locales expected to see temperatures in excess of 100 degrees.

"Take proper heat precautions if you are planning outdoor activities", meteorologists state. When temperatures reach 95 degrees or above, employers are required to implement high-heat procedures to ensure outdoor workers are protected.

"If you have an elderly or infirm neighbor without air conditioning, make sure that they get to a cooling center or other air conditioned space between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.", he said.

Temperatures are forecast to hit triple-digit territory in the San Fernando and Antelope valleys Friday and come close to doing the same in the Santa Clarita Valley on the fourth day of the Southland's heat wave, which air quality officials said is coinciding with exceedingly unhealthy smog levels.

The Weather Service is also cautioning that snow melt from the Sierra will make rivers extra cold, which could make swimming more unsafe. "Extreme heat such as this is not just an inconvenience, it can be unsafe and even deadly, but we can protect ourselves, our families, and our neighbors if we take steps to remain cool and hydrated".
