Tigers DH Victor Martinez released from hospital

Victor Martinez hospitalized overnight for illness, report says

The five-time All-Star will remain on the 10-day disabled list, and as Beck noted above, will be monitored over the next 10 days. "He's not going on the road trip with us".

Martinez had two hits during Thursday's game, but left after experiencing dizziness in the seventh inning.

Detroit has four games in Seattle beginning Monday followed by three games in San Diego before returning home.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus told MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM that Victor Martinez (illness) spent the night in a Detroit hospital on Thursday. He ended up requiring an overnight stay in the hospital, and Ausmus suggests that he may do so again tonight, as Evan Woodberry of MLive.com tweets. "It's not something that, at his age, you generally consider an issue or worry about".

To take Martinez's spot on the roster, the Tigers recalled catcher/first baseman John Hicks from Triple-A Toledo. It hasn't been his best season up to this point, but the 38-year-old has remained relatively productive and is still a big presence in the Tigers' batting order.
