Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, which have cut ties with Qatar, announced via state media on Sunday the creation of hotlines to help families with Qatari members.

Tiny Qatar is the world's No. 1 exporter of liquefied natural gas, with a $335 billion sovereign wealth fund that owns stakes in global companies from Volkswagen to Glencore and Barclays.

"Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Bahrain are toying with the lives of thousands of Gulf residents as part of their dispute with Qatar, splitting up families and destroying peoples' livelihoods and education", Amnesty International said on Friday.

Scores of Arab and Middle Eastern nations including Libya, Yemen, Mauritania, Niger and Jordan later joined the three countries, cutting or reducing diplomatic ties with Doha.

In a statement reported by KUNA, Al Sabah stressed that his country will not spare any effort in finding a resolution that gets to the root of the causes of the tension.

"Morocco, which remains closely linked to Gulf countries in all fields despite geographic distance, is very concerned with this crisis although it is not directly involved in it", the statement said, noting that the North African Kingdom has adopted a constructive neutrality "which does not confine it to a passive observation of a disturbing escalation between brotherly countries". The land border with Saudi Arabia, through which 40 per cent of Qatar's food comes, has been closed.

Saudi, UAE and Bahraini citizens were also given the same timeframe to leave Qatar.
