Iran twin attacks mastermind killed, says minister

Members of Iranian forces take position during an attack on the Iranian parliament in central Tehran Iran

The intelligence ministry on June 8 revealed the identities of the five attackers and said they had fought for the IS in Iraq and Syria.

On Wednesday morning, terrorists launched simultaneous attacks on Iran's parliament building in downtown Tehran and on the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, south of the city.

"Especially when we see the USA position and the Senate sanctions bill [the same day as the terrorist attacks on Tehran which killed 17 people], all their objectives are revealed", Larijani said, adding "the enemy's strategy is to damage Iran's dignity and busy our authorities with side issues".

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.

Alavi also added that the safe house used by the five terrorists who carried out the attacks in Tehran was discovered by security forces and the brother of one the terrorists, who according to the minister was even more unsafe, was caught by the intelligence forces.

In 1981, a bomb planted by an Iranian opposition group in Tehran killed 27 Iranian members of parliament and dozens of other officials.

Meanwhile, Iran's Police chief Hossein Ashtari has announced that a group of some 60 suspects has also been detained near Tehran in relation to the terrorist attacks.

In Wednesday's attacks no member of the parliament was killed as the attackers were unable to reach the main building. Once there, they likely planned to take a number of Iranian lawmakers hostage using them as leverage to extort concessions from the Islamic establishment.

On Friday, Iranians from all walks of life held a massive funeral ceremony for the victims of the terrorist incidents.

Iran said its security forces on Saturday killed the mastermind of the attacks, and arrested seven people suspected of helping the militants.

"Six people who were certainly connected to Wednesday's terrorist attacks in Tehran were identified and arrested", Aliakbar Garousi was quoted as saying by the Fars news agency.

"Tehran police announced on Saturday a auto used by terrorists to reach the attack sites was found in downtown Tehran".

The terrorists first went by the vehicle to Imam Khomeini's Mausoleum and after dropping two of them, went to the city center to carry out the terrorist attack on the parliament, it added.
