'100 per cent' willing to testify over Comey conversations

Comey offered $10m to reveal everything about Trump, Hilary Clinton

During more than two hours of testimony, Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee he believed Trump had directed him to drop an FBI probe into the Republican president's former national security adviser Michael Flynn as part of the broader Russian Federation investigation.

Asked if he had taped their conversations, Trump said he would reveal that answer soon. The Democrats will argue that even if there was no criminal collusion, someone - namely the president - must have obstructed justice in trying to suppress the investigation of the non-crime.

He further denied ever asking Comey for his "loyalty", contradicting Comey's detailed allegations in his sworn testimony. Few, if any, criminal defendants say aloud the words "I am doing this with the corrupt intent to frustrate an ongoing investigation". Asked if he would make that denial under oath, he said: "100 percent".

President Donald Trump will take questions from reporters a day after former FBI Director James Comey accused him of lying in stunning testimony. "I'm not going to say, 'I want you to pledge allegiance, '" Trump added. Trump tweeted in his first comments since Comey appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday. The Republican president stopped short of saying that Comey lied under oath.In the highly anticipated hearing, Comey delivered a scathing indictment of Trump, accusing him of trying to block a probe into ties between former national security adviser Michael Flynn and Russia, and saying the White House defamed him and the FBI in explaining his dismissal by Trump last month. The probe into Flynn was part of a wider FBI investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and possible collusion with Trump campaign aides.

During a visit to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation headquarters last month in Brussels, Trump had pointedly not mentioned US support for the critical portion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation charter. On Friday he said he was "committing the United States to Article 5". That, however, was B.C.E. - Before the Comey Era. Marc Kasowitz, Trump's go-to lawyer for everything from divorce to bankruptcy, announced yesterday that he'll be filing a complaint with the Inspector General of the Department of Justice in hopes that the DOJ will pursue an investigation against James Comey. Comey said Friday that he gave the friend - later identified as Daniel Richman, a longtime Comey confidante and Columbia University professor - the information after Trump tweeted that he may have tapes of his conversations with the fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director. The other was that he - James Comey - leaked the memos he wrote about his encounters with the president to the press, via a personal friend.

White House spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders also defended Trump, responding to Comey's assertion that the president had repeatedly lied.

ABC drew the largest audience with 3.3 million viewers from 10 a.m.to 1 p.m. on Thursday, followed closely by CBS, according to Nielsen data.

He defied FBI norms by making public pronouncements about the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, including during the campaign's final days, drawing the ire of those who believe he tipped the electoral scales to Trump. The Russia probe will only accelerate in the public and media sphere now with the appointment of former FBI Director, Robert Mueller, as special counsel.

But the self-imposed silence didn't last.

In his first response to Comey's blunt remarks, Trump offered a window into how the White House may try to contain the controversy that has dogged his administration for months - accusations that his campaign team colluded with Moscow to tilt the 2016 election in his favor. Trump's Twitter account had been quiet throughout Comey's testimony accusing the administration of spreading "lies". Comey's testimony provided a gripping account of his interactions with Trump and underscored the discord that had soured their relationship. Rubio asked Comey, "At the time, did you say anything to the president about - that is not an appropriate request, or did you tell the White House counsel, that is not an appropriate request, someone needs to go tell the president that he can't do these things?"

Comey said he did so after Trump suggested in a tweet that their conversations may have been recorded.

But Trump's lawyer presents zero actual evidence that what Comey said is false.

New Jersey Gov. (and former Trump transition-team chairman) Chris Christie came closer to honesty, dismissing the president's exchanges with Comey as "normal NY conversation". And so I asked a friend of mine to share the content of the memo with a reporter. "I can definitively say the president's not a liar", she said. "Now it's a credibility contest between him and the president, and I think it's safe to say Comey is winning that contest".

Comey asserted Thursday that Trump fired him because of the ongoing investigation into possible ties between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.
