Texas mom charged after leaving toddlers to die in hot car

Hawkins faces two charges of abandoning and endangering. "The fact that she did this intentionally to two lovely little girls is unimaginable", he said.

Hierholzer said the investigation began after Hawkins arrived with the girls "in grave condition" at Peterson Regional Medical Center about 1 p.m. Wednesday, accompanied by a 16 year-old boy, saying they had collapsed during an outing at Flat Rock Park in Kerrville.

A woman was arrested and charged with child endangerment after the Kerr County sheriff said she is accused of leaving her two young daughters in her vehicle overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday morning, ultimately leading to their deaths. The children were left in the vehicle overnight, until around noon on June 7. Police spokesman Todd Wildermuth says the body was found Thursday afternoon and it is believed to be that of 30-year-old.

Sheriff's deputies and investigators with Kerrville Police Department determined that the girls had been "intentionally" left overnight in their mother's auto Tuesday night while she visited friends inside the residence, whose location was not specified, the release said.

Amanda Hawkins, 19, and a 16-year-old male, who was not identified, brought the toddlers to a hospital in Kerrville on Wednesday and claimed Hawkins' daughter collapsed after smelling flowers, Kerr County Sheriff Rusty Hierholzer told reporters.

She attempted to bathe them but didn't immediately take them to the hospital because she "did not want to get into trouble", according to the news release.

Another pair of young children - a 2-year-old girl and a 16-month-old boy - died May 26 in Parker County, west of Fort Worth, in what appeared to be a hot vehicle incident. "This is the more horrific case we have ever had to deal with here".

The charges against Hawkins could be upgraded after the findings of the case are presented to a grand jury, Hierholzer said.

Davis has known the children's mother, Amanda Hawkins, since middle school.
