White House Responds To Allegations About Kushner, Russia Communications

Fired FBI director James Comey plans to testify publicly in the Senate as early as next week to confirm bombshell accusations that President Donald Trump pressured him to end his investigation into a top Trump aide's ties to Russian Federation, a source close to the issue said Wednesday.

"The trip sets the stage for a much more safe and prosperous nation back at home and a more peaceful world for all", Spicer said. Perhaps there is a reasonable explanation, but so far, it's not been forthcoming from the White House, and that's distressing.

On Friday, the Washington Post reported that Kushner and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak last December to discuss setting up a secure communication channel to shield pre-inauguration talks from United States intelligence eavesdropping.

The White House too has defended the role of Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump.

Cameras were not permitted to record Spicer's comments, as the White House apparently moves to reduce the number of contentious televised briefings. "As part of our ongoing investigation into Russian active measures during the 2016 campaign, today we approved subpoenas for several individuals for testimony, personal documents and business records", Republican Representative Mike Conaway and Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, who are leading the committee probe, said in a joint statement. More attorneys with deep experience in Washington investigations are expected to be added, along with crisis communication experts, to help the White House in the weeks ahead. Former national security adviser Michael Flynn will reportedly hand over records from two of his businesses to the Senate Intelligence Committee. The person wasn't authorized to publicly discuss private policy deliberations and insisted on anonymity.

During the meeting the Russians broached the idea of using a secure line between the Trump administration and Russia, not Kushner, a source familiar with the matter told Fox News. Flynn was sacked as national security adviser in February.

What do we know about the alleged back channel Kushner wanted to establish?

"Mr. Kushner was acting in his capacity as a transition official and had many similar discussions with foreign representatives after the election", said Hope Hicks, a White House spokeswoman, in a statement. The official said Kushner was eager to share what he knows with Congress and other investigators.
