"While this is the right move for the company to achieve our long-term objectives, it was a hard decision because of its impact on employees", Kellogg's spokesperson Kris Charles said in a statement.

The Kellogg Company recently announced layoffs and a plant closure.

Kellogg's says it will close an OH distribution center and permanently lay off almost 250 employees. That's a system the company already was using for the majority of its products.

Kellogg and competitors like General Mills and Post have been cutting costs and changing strategies as consumer trends shift away from processed foods in North America, a key market for Kellogg.

The company is closing its Detroit Distribution Center in New Hudson, Michigan, citing a change in its sales and distribution model.

About 250 employees at Kellogg's Cincinnati Distribution Center in Ohio will lose their positions this summer, a letter sent to the Ohio Office of Workforce Development said, the Dayton Daily News said.

Other closings include centres in Houston and Fort Worth, Texas, affecting 420 workers.

Distribution centers in Charlotte and Greensboro, North Carolina will be shuttered at the same time, impacting some 500 workers, the Charlotte Business Journal reported.
