Intel Has A Credit Card Sized Computer

Intel showcases 'always connected' computer

Intel has launched Compute Card, a slim, modular PC that it wants other brands to incorporate into connected things, such as kiosks, smart TVs, different form factor PCs, and home appliances.

"The Intel Compute Card offers the capabilities of a full computer but in the size of a credit card", said Gregory Bryant, corporate vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group at Intel.

The Compute Card architecture allows for easy upgrading, with more powerful cards replacing older models, allowing users to keep their systems fast and up-to-date. "The applications are endless - smart screens, interactive appliances, smart factories and more - and it's a flawless complement to everything else we are doing to bring more compute power and connectivity into the home and beyond". Bryant noted that the solution is a flawless complement to everything else Intel is doing to bring more compute power and connectivity into the home and beyond.

Intel unveiled the Compute Card at CES earlier this year and is now gearing up to ship the devices in August.

Created to be the core for various devices like digital signage, kiosks, smart TVs, and even 2-in-1 computers, the Compute Card is functionally a complete computer that's still small enough to fit inside a wallet. All configurations use 4GB of memory and feature 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity. Sharp, for example, is showing off digital signage while Seneca and Foxconn are making mini PCs.

Intel's Compute Card is slightly longer than a credit card and can plug into a dock. The product will initially be available in four SKUs, as outlined below.
