Google's Android Pay launches in Canada with most major banks as partners

LG Electronics Canada announced today it has teamed up with Google to be one of the first consumer electronics company to launch Android Pay in Canada

After the official announcement during Google I/O 2017, support for Android Pay in Canada is finally rolling out starting today. Android Pay is also compatible with certain apps and online services too, allowing users to complete one-tap purchases.

When it comes to stores, Android Pay users in Canada will be able to visit Tim Hortons, Loblaws, Petro-Canada, McDonald's, Indigo, Pizza Pizza, Sears Canada, Telus, Rogers, and Freedom Mobile stores and use their phone to make payments.

Android Pay is a trademark of Google Inc. For users planning a trip overseas, Android Pay is already accepted by millions of merchants around the world.

Spinnell also noted at a launch event that the progress of Android Pay represents the result of a tremendous amount of work, since it means bringing together and satisfying a large number of stakeholders, from merchants, to financial institutions, to payment networks and to customers. For each transaction, a virtual account number is transmitted to authorize the payment, so the user's sensitive information is not shared with the merchant. And if your Android phone is ever lost or stolen, you can simply use Google's Find My Device feature to instantly lock your device from anywhere, secure it with a new password, or even wipe it clean of your personal information. At present, there's no mention of Royal Bank or TD cards - for Americans, that would be like going without Chase or Wells Fargo. The Bank has more than 21,000 employees and is widely recognized as a top employer. Paysafe Group plc shares trade on the London Stock Exchange under the symbol (PAYS.L). Follow the Bank's activities at or via social media such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
