Resident Evil movie franchise set to receive reboot

'Resident Evil' movie series reboot is in the works

The over-the-top nature of the final few Resident Evil films does create a bit of a problem for the rebooted franchise, however.

In a new announcement made to Variety by Martin Moszkowicz, chairman of the board at German production company Constantin Film, a reboot of the Resident Evil film franchise is now in development.

Details are scarce at present, and it's unclear whether Constantin has any talent attached to the project. So while a Resident Evil reboot would make sense in the year 2030, the fact that they are already doing this less than 2 years after the last film came out is kind of insane not to mention lame.

Capcom is a widely loved game developer and this is mostly because of the Resident Evil Series. The six-film series has pulled in a cool $1.2 billion United States dollars worldwide since the first installment, Resident Evil, was released in 2002.

Yes, that dreaded R-word has raised its head yet again as studios seemingly can not ignore the fact that the last film continued to bring in the dough and want to see more of the franchise.

Although, the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies may be finished in a recent announcement from Martin Moszkowicz: Chairman of Constantin Film. Alongside Wan is Greg Russo, who will pen the movie's script. Fans may recognize Russo from his past work on 2016's Mortal Kombat. As is usually the case in Hollywood, if there's still money to be made, then we'll keep getting more films - whether we want them or not.

Resident Evil is the most successful film franchise based off a video game.

The production company isn't revealing anything else at this time, including possible directors and stars, or how/if it would fit into the existing series canon. He's now working on an adaptation of Capcom's popular franchise, Monster Hunter, which will be released either this year or the early next. The $40 million-budgeted sixth film, distributed by Sony's Screen Gems, has earned $312.2 million worldwide.
