Chris Woakes confident England will avoid Australia-style pay dispute

Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland says players will not be paid after June 30 if they don't agree

Australia coach Darren Lehmann conceded that the team's focus isn't entirely on the matters on the field of play as the Champions Trophy draws closer amid bitter dispute with the home board Cricket Australia.

The Australian Cricketers' Association (ACA) on Thursday announced that it will be establishing a player support fund for female and domestic cricketers in an event of the stalled MOU talks with Cricket Australia (CA) not progressing June 30. "We've had discussions - I mean he's an excitement machine, so we hope he pulls up well with his injuries and plays some cricket for us", said Lehmann, as reported by cricket.com.au. In the meanwhile, Cricket South Africa must take heed of the drama unfolding in Australia and attempt to ensure the same doesn't happen here.

He said: "You want to do both, but the be-all and end-all is playing for your country".

“Theyll get a deal done and, once that happens, everyone will be right and well get the game going the way it should be.

It's a key gathering for numerous leading players in the negotiations, or lack thereof given the current stand-off between Cricket Australia and the players union, the Australian Cricketers Association.

He added: "Potentially the players are seen as the prize - that's who the people pay to go and watch - and yet the European Central Bank want to have their cake and eat it".

"For us we can just concentrate on getting ready for cricket and we've got our guys, some in India, some in England, some here".

CA wants to shake up the funding flow and move away from a percentage-of-revenue model that has served the game for 20 years. You have to do that, you've got to keep it open in communication so we know the direction everyone's going.

"The players' position is about preserving the Revenue Sharing Model as well as understanding a need for increases in grassroots cricket".

"I wouldn't think so", he said when asked if the Ashes could be cancelled.

The ACA has called for the dispute to go to independent mediation but CA so far has not agreed to that.

Sutherland said Cricket Australia "is not contemplating alternative contracting arrangements to pay players beyond 30 June if their contracts have expired".

Other options: David Warner has warned leading players may not be involved in the next Ashes series.

"It always traditionally stays quite late in the negotiations".

"The next three years we go to England for one dayers the following year and then we've got the World Cup, so it's a pretty important tournament for us in many ways", he added.

"We've just got to adjust and grow with the game and get it right".
