Tiger Woods says he's ready to compete but had doubts on return

My first knee surgery was back in 94.

Thai-American golfer Tiger Woods measures success by just being able to compete at the Hero World Challenge, where the former world No.1 returns from the longest layoff of his career on Thursday.

However, there's no question that many people are tired of the "When is Tiger going to return" story.

“The talents there. Its been proven. On Tuesday, he said he could have played but chose to go against his nature and be patient. "It's what you think of yourself". We've got a lot of great kids that are carrying the torch right now.

Rose agreed, saying: "We've played today in a 20-mph plus breeze and it's quite an unforgiving wind, but the quality of Tiger's play has been pretty good". Touch any other putter, do anything you want with any other putter. The offseason event is one of several throughout the season that benefit the Tiger Woods foundation, and it's a highlight of what is the deadest quarter of the golf year.

Woods grew nearer to some players during his time as a USA assistant Ryder Cup captain earlier this year.

It was Woods' second nine holes on the Ernie Els designed course having played the front nine on Saturday and spending Sunday working on the range.

Woods will make his return to competitive golf at High Noon alongside Patrick Reed.

Just being back on the course when it counts - and making it through all four days - would be enough for at least a glimmer of optimism about what 2017 might hold for the 14-time major championship victor. Woods is all set to participate in the Hero World Challenge which is scheduled from December 2-4. Woods has been a star attraction his entire career, and the appetite is even stronger after an absence that dates to August 23, 2015, at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. Woods said that the added time allowed him to get stronger and practice and play on consecutive days. Just by finishing the four-round, no-cut tournament - which is hardly a given, considering his long absence and the questions of his health and endurance - Woods would rise some 150 spots. How am I supposed to swing a club at 120 miles an hour? He's sent me clips, and I've heard the description of how he feels. "We'll see, I wish him well". I care about what I do out there and I want to win. Woods selects one of the concepts to move forward with.

"I could do it, but why try to pull it off when I could wait and be ready", Woods said.

Tiger Woods turns 41 at the end of next month, and for the first time since he started this holiday tournament he is the oldest player in the field. I know Bubba went low, shot 25-under [to win last year]. He knows what everybody has done.

He also noted that Bubba Watson won a year ago at 25-under par, and it probably will take something around that to win.

That might be expecting too much, way too soon. He hasnt had a serious chance at winning since his tournament three years ago when it was at Sherwood Country Club.

Woods said he hopes to someday be a Ryder Cup captain but that won t be soon. None of the other 17 players in the field are ranked outside the top 40.

"I'm going to try to do the same thing I always do", he said. Every pitch shot, every putt, every 3-footer, it's not under public scrutiny like he has. "I'm here to beat you".

He sounded, at least in bits and pieces, like Tiger Woods. "It's a tough situation".

Woods seems to have gained further strength in chatting at length over the nine holes with both Jeter and Martinez, with Jeter competing in the later stages of his own career with a broken ankle he sustained in October 2012. Then again, he has accumulated plenty of emotional baggage over the last several years, on and off the golf course.

"The physical side is not an issue". "But you've got to get on the horse". You cant be standing on the sidelines. One of the greatest aspects of this sport is that it can be played a few years short of forever.

Here we go again.
