Suspected tornado leaves 3 dead in Alabama

Three Deaths, Four Children in Critical Condition After Tornadoes Reported in Alabama

Another tornado in northern Alabama killed three people in Jackson County and a separate tornado killed a couple in southern Tennessee, the Associated Press reported.

Early Wednesday morning, strong storms ripped through Jackson County, which is located in the northeastern tip of the state.

In Tennessee, husband and wife died, possibly due to a tornado, as the storm hit their house in Polk County, the AP reports.

A tornado was spotted in Coffee County, and the NWS noted wind damage in more than two dozen locations.

Three people were killed when the storm swept through Rosalie.

The Macklin Baptist Church, a flat building with ridged siding like a warehouse, and Rosalie Plaza, a gas station and grocery store in a long, redbrick building on AL-71, were both destroyed in the storm along with about 15 other structures, according to Rocky Harnen, Chief Deputy of Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said nine other Tennesseans were injured as the line of risky storms hugged the 35th parallel, the line of latitude that serves as Tennessee's border with its southern neighbors. The adults were listed in critical condition, said DeKalb County Emergency management director Anthony Clifton to NBC News.

"Just know that this is not the first time this area has faced these kind of tragedies and I am confident that the people up here will do as they have always done, and they will rise up and neighbors will help neighbors", Faulkner said. Its operators, who live in a nearby mobile home, sought shelter from the weather in the building.

Across the state in Colbert County, home to the famed recording center of Muscle Shoals, emergency responders had begun trying to determine how many homes were destroyed.

Several schools in Alabama delayed opening, as a tornado watch was in place until 10 a.m.

Another crew surveying damage in Colbert and Franklin counties Wednesday said there was also EF-2 damage there. People work to salvage items from Sullivan Cycles Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, after it was destroyed by overnight storms and high winds in Neel, Ala.

The band of storms stretched from the coast of Louisiana, across MS and Alabama and into Georgia.

Louisiana also saw multiple tornado reports and golf ball sized hail in some regions.
