On being invited to visit Pakistan by the prime minister, Trump said that he would love to come to a "fantastic country, fantastic place of fantastic people".

"You are a terrific guy", Trump allegedly told Sharif.

Markey says India is likely concerned about Trump's conversation with Sharif.

Trump made these remarks in a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.

Pakistan's Press Information Bureau on Wednesday released a readout of a phone call on Monday between Pakistan's prime minister, Nawaz Sharif, and the US president-elect, Donald Trump.

Sharif invited Trump to visit Pakistan.

Donald Trump has never met Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. You are doing awesome work which is visible in every way.

The US president-elect also said it will be an honour for him to do so and he will personally do what is needed.

"As I am talking to you Mr PM, I feel I am talking to a person I have known for long".

"Now governments typically release summaries of conversations with foreign leaders, but this release appears to be quotes from Trump", CBS News correspondent Jamie Yuccas noted.

Needless to say, worldwide newspapers and their websites were shocked to see Trump's warm regard towards Pakistan, Muslim country for which he has uttered stern statements before. I am looking forward to see you soon, ' it said.

But like the Obama administration, Trump also said that he would only mediate if both countries asked him to do so.

The Donald's team has yet to release a statement on the call, so we only have the Pakistani government's account thus far, but if it's true it looks like the president-elect is taking the "shower them with kindness" approach.

"Trump would be in no hurry to reach out to Pakistan and then he happily accepts a call from its prime minister and says incredibly nice things", he said. It was more toned down than the first, but still mentioned that "Pakistan is a fantastic country of fantastic people".
