Investigator Believes Sex Trafficking Could Be Motive Behind Sherri Papini Kidnapping Case

Keith and Sherri Papini

During a press conference Wednesday, Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko was asked about the husband's written statement sent to Good Morning America earlier in the week.

"I think that the general public's got a lot more to be anxious and afraid of than being abducted off the street, unless they've done something illicit or illegal", or are known to be exceptionally wealthy, Detenbaugh said. Deputies are now working with a sketch artist but have said that only a drawing of their eyes may be released since the women kept their faces covered most of the time. "Suspect 1" had a thick accent, pierced ears, and thin eyebrows, according to Papini. The other woman was described as having straight black hair and thick eyebrows.

POLICE investigating the alleged kidnap and torture of Sherri Papini now fear one of the few clues in her disappearance may have been planted as a red herring.

"She screamed so much, she's coughing up blood from the screaming trying to get somebody to stop", an emotional Keith Papini told ABC News' 20/20, while fighting back tears.

Mary Ellen O'Toole, a retired senior Federal Bureau of Investigation profiler and criminal investigative analyst who also is editor-in-chief for the publication, said inconsistencies in the Papini case "must be answered in order to understand if this case is an aberration from more typical kidnapping cases, or there are other reasons why this occurred". Keith Papini: She was uh, bound. Bosenko said that law enforcement still wasn't sure if Sherri's abduction was random or if she was targeted by her abductors.

He revealed that she weighed just 39kg and added: "My first sight was my wife in a hospital bed, her face covered in bruises ranging from yellow to black because of repeated beatings, the bridge of her nose broken".

Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko said that investigators have no reason to doubt the harrowing tale told by the mother. She was chained during her captivity and kept in the dark with a bag over her head. He said she was covered in scabs and bruises, a brand was seared into skin and her long, blond hair was "chopped off".

"Right now we don't know where that location is, it is still an active and ongoing investigation, my investigators did talk with her, I don't have the information of whether they have been able to narrow down where she may have been held, but we are still working on this."

I'm very thankful for the many tips and the community support for both the Papini family and to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.

She was released along Interstate 5 near Sacramento. The mother of two young children was found "heavily battered" before dawn on Thanksgiving day after she managed to flag down a vehicle on Interstate 5 in Yolo County, according to a recording of a 911 dispatch call. Sherri Papini disappeared while jogging, was held captive, then turned up on the side of a road.

"She has always been athletic", he said.

"I can't say whether the incidents described happened, but we do not have a record of it", Bosenko told The Bee. She was found 150 miles from her home by a motorist alongside a highway. We do not know that it has any relevance to this case or not.

"My Sherri suffered tremendously and all the visions swirling in your heads of her appearance, I assure you, are not as graphic and gruesome as the reality", he wrote in his prepared statement.
