Families prepare to receive the dead from Colombia crash

Colombian club Atletico Nacional on Tuesday (Nov 29) called on football authorities to hand the Copa Sudamericana title to their opponents, Brazilian side Chapecoense, as a tribute to the team's players killed in a plane crash.

Aviation officials indicated that the flight recorders will be sent to the United Kingdom as evidence for a full investigation.

AFP reported that the investigators had finished identifying the bodies on Thursday.

Supporters of Brazil's Chapecoense soccer team gather for a memorial to remember the players who died in a plane crash in Colombia, at Arena Condado stadium in Chapeco, Brazil, Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016.

Gelson Dalla Costa has hailed the reaction from worldwide clubs as well as those in Brazil after the tragic plane crash.

Meanwhile, authorities prepared to repatriate the victims' remains, most of which had been identified by Thursday.

"We Brazilians will never forget the way Colombians lived as their own this bad, awful disaster that disrupted Chapecoense's dream", the normally stone-faced political veteran said while wiping away tears. "You offer us enormous comfort - a light in the darkness when all of us are trying to understand the unexplainable".

The cause of a Brazilian soccer team's tragic plane crash is now clear: The aircraft simply ran out of fuel, the BBC reports.

At the same time they had expected to be home watching their team on TV, more than 22,000 Chapecoense fans cried as they watched videos of tributes that poured in from all over the world. "They had a good service then".

Chapecoense's acting president said earlier in the week that the head of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Marco Polo Del Nero, had ordered Chapecoense to play their final match using a team made up mostly of junior players.

Of the 77 people on board, six survived. "I doubt that a bigger club would have done the same".

Chapecoense Real had risen from obscurity to reach the Copa Sudamericana finals. Both crew members are in stable condition. Defender Alan Ruschel is recovering from spinal surgery, goalkeeper Jackson Follmann's right leg had to be amputated, and central defender Helio Neto is in intensive care with major skull, thorax, and spinal injuries.
