Brazilian Soccer Clubs Offer Extensive Support To Chapecoense After Tragic Plane Crash

Black Boxes Found From Brazilian Football Team Plane Crash

Brazil's top flight football teams have offered to loan players to Chapecoense for next season after the small southern club lost nearly all its players in a plane crash in Colombia.

All survivors were being treated at local hospitals.

The head of the South American soccer body said Tuesday was a "tragic day for football", following a plane crash in which nearly an entire Brazilian team was killed. Two of the six were in grave condition.

The chartered flight from Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia to Medellin included 72 passengers and nine crew.

The charter jet suffered an electrical failure just before 10pm local time on Monday night, disappearing from controllers' radar screens and forcing the crew to declare an emergency.

The club announced that one of its goalkeepers, 31-year-old Marcos Danilo, initially survived the crash, but later died.

The plane's two black boxes have been found. Officials did not immediately say how long it would take to analyze their contents.

Given the model of the plane and that it was flying close to capacity, "I would be concerned that the pilots may have been cutting it too close", Weber said.

Players Alan Ruschel and Jakson Ragnar Follmann and flight attendant Ximena Suarez are among the survivors, according to Colombia's civil aviation authority.

"We can't rule out anything". Colombia's president reached out to his counterpart in Brazil.

"Now we're going to do this new trip and we hope they bring us good luck like they did the first time", athletic director Mauro Stumpf told the Gigavision TV network.

Chapecoense, from the small city of Chapeco, were in the middle of a fairy-tale season. Recently, they defeated Argentina's legendary San Lorenzo squad in the finals last week during the Copa Sudamericana tournament.

His last-minute save in the semi-final had sealed the team's spot in the final.

The Brazilian team joined the country's first division in 2014.

Colombian team Atletico Nacional called on Conmebol to crown Chapecoense the champion of the South American Cup.

Closer to home, fans mourned the bad loss.

Businesses were closed across the grief-stricken Brazilian city of Chapecó on Tuesday as residents struggled to process the devastating tragedy that had befallen their beloved soccer team Chapecoense.
