Jill Stein files for presidential vote recount request in Michigan

Keep the Electoral College

Donald Trump's transition team on Monday pushed back against an effort to recount November 8's presidential election votes, calling the effort "nonsense", but offering no evidence to back a weekend Trump tweet alleging millions of illegal votes.

The President-elect claimed on Twitter on Sunday that he would have won the popular vote if it were not for 'the millions of people who voted illegally'.

Trump, who spent the campaign warning that the result might be 'rigged, ' is now pushing back hard as Stein works to secure recounts in three states he won. The Michigan State Board of Canvassers unanimously certified the election results shortly after 2 p.m. today. The campaign has until 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon to file the request.

Jill Stein has filed a lawsuit in Pennsylvania over her attempts to push a statewide vote recount, according to NBC News. The Green Party candidate initiated the recount process last week after handily raising more than $6.3 million to fund the effort. "According to Wanda Murren, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of State", the website reported, "the deadline for a voter-initiated recount was Monday, Nov. 21". In just the past week, Stein's recount effort has drawn in some $6.3 million in donations, a figure nearly double the amount she was able to raise in a year-long campaign for the Oval Office.

Brewer says there's no proof, but there are reasons to wonder if the state's electronic ballot counting system is flawed and susceptible to hacking.

"What we have are predictors that if tampering took place, it would be most likely to be discovered in the three states where we are looking", she told CNN's Anderson Cooper on "Anderson Cooper 360".

Mark Brewer, the Michigan-based attorney representing Stein, arrived at the Board of Elections with several other attorneys representing the campaign.

Donald Trump responded with a series of tweets bashing the recount effort while his campaign accused Clinton of being a sore loser.

The Commission's role in a recount is to order the recount, to provide legal guidance to the counties during the recount, and to certify the results. This came as part of his angry response to a recount effort led by the Green Party and Hillary Clinton's campaign.
