Texas A&M criticizes 'alt-right' leader invited to speak at school

"Of course I disavow and condemn them", Trump said when asked about the neo-Nazi conference that took place in Washington, D.C., Saturday.

Trump in the interview also defended Bannon, who has been lambasted by an array of Jewish groups, among others, for injecting into the campaign themes that appealed to the alt-right, including conspiracy theories about a secretive cabal seeking global control.

Spencer has popularised the term "alt-right" to describe people who have right and far-right beliefs and reject mainstream USA conservatism.

A group of students are holding a silent protest the day he's scheduled to be there and an online petition is circling titled "Denounce Richard Spencer's engagement to speak at Texas A&M". It seems they are going to have more than a dog in this new dispensation.

In the video, he declared, "Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory!" and members of the crowd can be seen throwing up their hands in a Nazi salute.

"I don't want to energise the group, and I disavow the group", Trump told the New York Times yesterday, Tuesday, November 22, 2016.

Steve Bannon at a meeting with advisers at Trump Tower, Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, in NY. "If the alt-right thinks they have a friend in the White House, it's not because of Donald Trump, who repeatedly denounced racism". It claims links to the European far right, is rich in pseudo-scientific theories on what it calls a hierarchy among the races and espouses little-concealed hostility for Jews and Muslims. "Do you want me to do it again for the 12th time?"

"It's fantastic that these leftists want this disease coming into our society more than they want to protect themselves". Nevada Senator Harry Reid has called Bannon a "champion of white supremacists", and the Southern Poverty Law Center has called Breitbart Media, which Bannon headed, a "white ethno-nationalist propaganda mill".

Hemmer said the movement, unlike other white supremacist ones in the past, is driven by the idea that the biggest threat in America right now is political correctness.

"That offers kind of an intellectual justification".

Trump also attempted to distance himself from white supremacists, who have celebrated his victory, including during a white supremacist conference over the weekend in which participants used the Nazi salute and quoted Nazi propaganda in the original German.

The president-elect concluded that he would swiftly fire Bannon if he had proof that the chief strategist held alt-right views, but "in the meantime, I think he's been treated very unfairly".

"Such an act would horrify a natural conservative", it added.

The leader of a prominent white nationalist group was met with Nazi salutes after he praised President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the USA election.

Shortly after video of the incident emerged, Trump transition spokesman Bryan Lanza issued a statement condemning the alt-right.

The right wing media has witnessed a surge in traffic as Donald Trump's campaign and the alt-right movement gained momentum.

At the Times meeting, Trump said he wanted to look into the reason why Spencer's group feels so energized by his campaign.
