Subaru VIZIV-7 SUV concept debuts at Los Angeles Auto Show

2016 Subaru VIZIV-7 crossover concept at the LA Auto Show

What does the new vehicle tell us about the production model?

SUBARU HAS ALREADY announced it will launch a seven-seat SUV onto the USA market in early 2018, and the Japanese vehicle makers says the VIZIV-7 concept "shows the size direction of the all-new three-row midsize SUV".

Big SUVs are pretty popular items in the United States, and Subaru is looking to stake its claim of the market with a new seven-seater SUV that will be introduced there in early 2018 (likely to challenge the Volkswagen Atlas). Dimensions for the VIZIV-7 are indeed, large. VIZIV in the name stands for "vision", also applied to previous Subaru concept cars. All Subaru products are manufactured in zero-landfill production plants, and Subaru of Indiana Automotive, the only USA automobile production plant to be designated a backyard wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. This muscular impression continues all the way back to the Viziv-7's thick flanks, which again bring to mind cues cribbed from the current crop of big people movers on the market. While at the rear, you'll also note the compact C-shaped taillights with a strip of LEDs running across the rear hatch, linking the lighting units.

The Japanese automaker promises both the Viziv Future and Viziv 7 preview future production models, though both will presumably be toned down significantly before arriving in showrooms.

Subaru is set to take on full-sized seven-seat SUVs such as the Mazda CX-9 and Toyota Highlander with its largest auto yet.

Subaru says the VIZIV-7 is a design concept to demonstrate the size and look its upcoming model, which they say will be their biggest model ever. The VIZIV-7 features body panels made from carbon fibre, and rides on 21-inch alloys wrapped in 265/55 rubber.
