John Lewis' 2016 Christmas advert swaps tears for laughter

Buster the Boxer

Finally, as morning arrives, the little girl runs outside to see her Christmas gift.

Bridget's father painstakingly assembles a giant trampoline ready to surprise his daughter on Christmas Day morning, but during the night the toy is hijacked by two foxes, a badger, a squirrel and a hedgehog.

On Christmas Day, Bridget excitedly sprints outside to use the trampoline, but cheeky Buster has the last laugh as he hops onto the trampoline before her.

It's also a shining light for another specific reason, and this is the return of the annual John Lewis Christmas advert.

Now John Lewis has revealed its new Christmas advert for 2016 - featuring a bouncing boxer dog.

Buster is played by a real dog, named Biff. "It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels like to give the ideal gift at Christmas", John Lewis customer director Craig Inglis said.

The eagerly awaited John Lewis Christmas advert has been released, marking a departure from the heart, felt offerings of the last few years.

The start of Christmas has also been known as the launch of the John Lewis advert, but some Twitter users are now complaining the retailer accidently ruined the magic of Christmas with its latest campaign. This year it has chosen The Wildlife Trust "as the story brings to life some of Britain's most-loved wildlife".

It has now been viewed nearly a million times and the company even invited him behind the scenes to see how they make their adverts.

What it does have is a man building a trampoline in his back garden - only to subsequently watch the John Lewis ad on his iPad, and look decidedly unimpressed at the thought of having wildlife jumping on it.

"With this support, we will be able to inspire thousands more children about the wonders of the natural world".

"Advertising agencies are paid billions by brands to try and replicate exactly what Nick, aged 17, has managed to do with his fake John Lewis ad", the spokesperson told the publication.
