2016-Election-Popular Vote story

President Barack Obama welcomed his successor, President-elect Donald Trump, to the White House on Thursday as the executive mansion prepares to change hands.

"As I said last night, my No. 1 priority in the next two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our president-elect is successful", Obama said. However, after the election, 'we are not Republicans or Democrats but we are Americans first and we have to come together around the newly elected president.' The President noted how gracious the Bush administration was towards him and that he has advised his staff to be the same towards Trump.

Although the final vote tallies are not yet in, the indications are that Hillary Clinton will become the fifth presidential candidate to lose the election despite winning the popular vote.

"Michelle took the chance to brief the incoming first lady and we had an excellent conversation with her as well". Ryan, who holds the most powerful post in Congress, was a sometime critic of Trump and never campaigned with the nominee.

Ryan took Trump on a tour of the Speaker's Balcony overlooking the National Mall, the scene of Trump's upcoming inauguration.

Also on Mr. Trump's schedule were meetings with House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky to discuss the Republican legislative agenda. And Trump voters made up more than three-quarters of those who said they were "angry" at the federal government, with Clinton voters accounting for just 18 percent of this group.

"We're going to do it simultaneously..."

So Americans going forward must feel the pain, work through it and know that we have to be in it for the long haul, that what you believe in is worth fighting for but dropping out is not an option.

Trump's visit to Washington got off to a bumpy start earlier in the day when the president-elect refused to let journalists travel with him on his flight from NY, according to the Associated Press. "We're going to fix healthcare and make it affordable and better".

Usually, the President-elect and his wife will join the outgoing President and First Lady on the south side of the White House for a photo opportunity. "Joe McCarthy, enraged Truman, to the point that Truman poured every bit as much energy into defeating Ike as Obama did to defeating Trump".

The 2016 USA presidential race will go down in history for many reasons as a truly extraordinary election.

Trump was expected to consider several loyal supporters for top jobs, including former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for attorney general or national security adviser and campaign finance chairman Steve Mnuchin for Treasury secretary.

Obama sought to play down that history after the election, saying in a speech Wednesday that in victory Trump had set the right tone in trying to heal the nation's political divisions.
